The Experience

While at the Wit's End Guest Ranch, Resort & Spa, you will have the opportunity to indulge in world-class fly-fishing the way it is supposed to be. Conveniently located just outside of Durango, the ranch is set amidst the foot of the San Juan National Forest high-country, and the Weminuche Wilderness area.  The rivers, streams, ponds, and lakes that surround the Ranch abound with trout of all varities. We have three trout ponds on the property and access to ½  a mile of nearby Vallecito Creek. While fly fishing in Colorado, you will enjoy the complete southwest experience with awe-inspiring settings and views, glimpses of local wildlife and the ever-present history of the American West. We have the luxury and ability to match any skill level or fly-fishing desire with the appropriate fishing experience. From "high-country heaven" to "tail-water treasures", you name it, we have it.

 For you lake fisher's out there, we offer guided experiences by boat on Vallecito Lake right here at the Ranch. Catch trophy Northern Pike, Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Kokanee Salmon, and large lake trout, whether on the fly or spin fishing - providing you a truly remarkable lake-fishing experience.

Instruction

Beginners are welcome and encouraged to ask questions of our fishing guides. A full fly fishing orientation is provided. Individual one on one instruction is available for and additional cost.

Travel by horseback deep into the Weminuche Wilderness, unlocking the pristine, awe-inspiring Emerald Lake, Colorado's largest natural alpine lake. Experience the hard-fighting acrobatics of the world-famous San Juan River rainbows via drift boat or walk/wading. Challenge your skills in search of the almighty German brown trout looming in the depths of the Gold Medal Animas River. Hike to remote creeks and lakes loaded with wild cutthroats, rainbows, and browns.
